Walter Murphy

Forget the Soulwax remix. Piece of unfunky shite. The original is the real deal.

Not often I post an original work still available to buy, so I will heartily encourage you to go out and buy yourself a copy of the Saturday Night Fever LP. Every single charity shop and car boot sale stall will have one so it'll only cost you a few pennies.

By the way, anyone know if this is the same Walter Murphy credited with the Family Guy theme tune?

Mystery hip hop upload #1

As you lot know, I rarely upload stuff that's still available in some shape or form, but I had to put this online for a reason and seems a waste not to share it. It's good AND fairly recent, which makes it unusal enough. Go and buy it.

UFO club tape 2 - 24.04.93

I put up a side of this tape in June last year. Not sure if it's the same one, but it doesn't really matter.

Strictly Rhythm mastermix - DJ Pierre

Words like 'Mastermix' do seem a bit overblown for a few house tracks slung together, especially considering what has gone on since (and, indeed, had gone on before) with mixing. Still, Strictly Rhythm is worth a mention as being the house label that brought us the sublime "Follow me" by Aly-us (included here). As well as Simone's "My family depends on me" that was almost as good  a tune as Kim Syms "To blind to see" in it's niche,
even if it hasn't aged as gracefully as that particular tune.

You'll find a tracklist for it at discogs. I'll put the other side up soon.

Geurilla mastermix - Justin Robertson - Side A

Today he's (just) remembered as a techno/house DJ but back in the day Justin Robertson really knew his stuff. Funk, soul, hiphop - just an across the board purveyor of good music.

Not sure what went wrong, but at some point he completely
turned his back on what he was good at and turned into a
techno DJ. Unfortunately he wasn't all that great at DJing
techno. Ho hum.

Anyway, this is a nice enough tape.

dj dennis - house blend - side 2

Here's the other side. Once you get past the cheesy x-files remix at the start there's some very nice tunes. As usual, any track info would be gratefully recieved.

dj dennis - house blend - side1

Can't remember where on earth I picked this up. It was for a DJ to promote himself with his agency. If I find it again before I post the second side I'll post his details. He'd probably love to hear people's comments about his '97(ish) mix.

Solid steel - 20th anniversary

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Solid Steel radio show we thought we would add our contribution to the archives started on their website (and http://www.bosbos.net/). Before the webcast and filesharing were around I was a listener from 93 to 96 when I lived in London and sleepily taped as much of the show as I could to listen to on my walkman throughout the next week. KISS broadcast Solid Steel from 2-4, then Manneseh's dub show from 4-6 and then Mixmaster Morris from 6-7. If only hard disc recording was around back then! I had to hope that the click of the tape stopping woke me up enough to flip it over (or put a new one in)!

This is from 'Solid steel - tape 11'. Date is unknown.

If anyone has any memories to share of the show, or details of the show/s I've added here please put a comment. Similarly with the Manneseh and Mixmaster Morris shows.

Rhythm and sound - No partial

If the name isn't familiar to you you need to download this. If you love it (and you will), go out and track down everything they've ever been involved with and buy it. Astonishing stuff.

Thriller (Mr Wyse re-edit) - Micheal Jackson/Various

Searching round the web for more Mr Wyse stuff I found this:

"In my box of stuff to re-edit I found no less than five different versions of Thriller so I thought I'd have a bash at putting them all together. I quickly realised that there was too much so I decided to concentrate on one at a time but add elements of the others. This is my first attempt and concentrates on the Vandal's 'Thrilla'. It's not great, as I mess about with the first 90 seconds too much, but it's a start."

It seems like it's a while old but I couldn't find any more versions so I guess he gave up after this.
